e-speec

As can be seen from the above attempts at spelling reform, it is of the utmost importance that the strategy behind the reform be sound. For example, it is no good just deleting unnecessary letters if all the other inconsistencies of traditional spelling are retained. And it is no good making unnecessary changes just to be pedantic - for example by changing 'the' to 'dhe' just because the initial sound is voiced; or by changing a perfectly reasonable and consistent spelling such as 'mate' to 'maet' or 'mait' just because it is a diphthong (made up of two sounds).

Notice the consistency of e-speec as well as the absence of unnecessary changes in this sample:

Forscor and seven yeerz ago our fartherz brort forth on this continent a nyu nashen, conseevd in liberty, and dedicated tu the propazishn that orl men ar created eecwl. Nou wee ar engajed in a grate sivl wor, testing wether that nashen, or enny nashen so conseevd and so dedicated, can long endyure. We ar met on a grate batl-feeld ov that wor. Wee hav cum tu dedicate a porshn ov that feeld az a finel resting-plase for thoze hu gave thair livez that that nashen mite liv. It iz orltugether fitting and propper that wee shood du this.
